Have you read this book called Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond? This one example in the book talks about this one society which did not have a lot of natural resources on their island, and how they remained a low-tech egalitarian, community centered culture for generations. You could compare that with any of the resource rich advanced liberal capitalists democracies. I feel that there is some room for questioning the assumption that capitalism is better than communism outright. Communist style community-above-individual style systems might actually work better for resource starved, low population communities. Whaddayathink?
